Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to bring anything when I come for a course or do you provide everything?
We recommend you bring a yoga mat or blanket, a bottle of water, and maybe a cushion if you're not used to sitting on the floor.

I'm doing a course but cannot attend one of the sessions due to prior committments, may I miss one session?
No, as you will lose the benefits of the course. Each day builds on the last and the results are cumulative. If you cannot attend all sessions, speak to a teacher ASAP.

I'd like to do a course closer to where I live, is that possible?
If you can gather a group of people to do a course, we will come teach in your neighbourhood. If you live outside New Orleans, please email us at info@iahvneworleans.org and we can put you in touch with IAHV volunteers in your area.

Where are follow up sessions held?
Follow up sessions are currently be held every Sunday at 5pm, at our local center,
4116 Prytania Street For other follow up locations, call us at 504-994-4990.

Are you a religious organization?
No. We are an international non-profit, educational and humanitarian Non Governmental Organization (NGO). We work in special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, participating in a variety of committees and activities relating to health, education, sustainable development and conflict resolution.

Are you affiliated to a particular religion?
No. The courses are open to people of all ages, genders, backgrounds, cultures and traditions across the world. They do not conflict with any persons existing religious or spiritual practices.
"We identify ourselves as somebody - I belong to this religion, this culture, this tradition, but we forget the basic identity that we are human beings. When that stands first and foremost, all other identities follow behind that." --H.H.Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

What are donations used for?
All the money goes directly into IAHV and is used for its service projects in this country, and around the world. All the teachers, coordinators and helpers are Volunteers - they do NOT get any salary or expenses from your course fees or donations.
